Harbour News 4th – 24th February 2025

Whitefish totalled 5,200 boxes from seven Scottish trawl and one Anglo freezer netter landing. The Scottish lads continue to fish along the shelf edge for monkfish and if weather permits they will try their luck at Rockall for haddock. Neither area has been that productive with monkfish quite scarce along the shelf edge and a run of small haddocks at Rockall. A number of Scottish trawlers are planning heading to Rockall in the coming weeks – here’s hoping that the fishing improves for them. The Anglo freezer netter completed a seven-week trip to deepwater grounds west of Rockall and landed four lorryloads of processed-at-sea monkfish.

Shellfish activity was pretty busy.  Sixty-eight landings from visiting prawn trawlers combined with the efforts of the local fleet. Fishing in the Minches, the boats report good quantity and quality which is to be expected at this time of year.

Non-fishing was almost exclusively reserved for the aquaculture sector with thirty-three support vessels calling in for fuel, crew and landing salmon. The MCA tug Ievoli Black made her monthly visit for fuel and a crew change.

Paddle steamer Waverley published their 2025 timetable confirming her return to Ullapool on Thursday May 22nd offering a variety of cruising opportunities including a short Ullapool to Isle Martin return.
