As the mainland departure port, Ullapool Harbour is the vital link to the Western Isles, facilitating the daily ro-ro lifeline ferry service – the MV Loch Seaforth – which crosses the Minch to Stornoway. There is also a year-round overnight freight service.
The timetable varies seasonally but for most of the year, it provides three 24 hour crossings carrying passengers, cars and light commercial vehicles. Extra sailings are added during the busiest time of year and during winter there is a very slight decrease in sailings.
Always check the operator’s website for up to date travel information.
Constructed in 2014 and weighing 8680 GRT, the 116m ro-ro ferry Loch Seaforth has capacity for 700 passengers and 143 cars (or 20 commercial vehicles). The viewing deck and external deck areas afford really excellent views of the Minch with opportunities to watch some fantastic marine wildlife en route.
